How to reach Melka Kunture

Melka Kunture is located near the road from Addis Abeba to Butajira. A few metres after the bridge of the Awash Village a green panel on the right indicates the site. Melka Kunture is permanently open and can be visited all over the year. Very beautiful views of the Awash River can be appreciated near the Archaeological Park. The first one is the Awash Faults just at the end of the Village. The second one is Melka Garba, a small fault, a few hundreds metres to the West of the Museum. Following the road to Butajira it is also possible to visit the rock-hewn church of Adadi Mariam and the Tiya stelae dating from the 12th to 15th centuries, respectively 17 km and 40 km far from the site of Melka Kunture.
